After 4 weeks the public consultation is now closed and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has taken part and provided they&#39;re comments on each scheme and also came to talk to us at the public face to face session in Ty Pawb on the 9th November It has been very helpful reading your comments and speaking to you in person to see where we are going right and just as importantly were we may have over looked a few points. Overall we had almost 1500 visitors to the site with the majority of comments made being positive which is very encouraging to see. The comments and insight you have provided will directly influence the final designs as we move forward and look to produce schemes that benefit everybody living, working and traveling in and around Wrexham. <h2 id="isPasted">About the project</h2>This project is looking at how the A541 Mold Road corridor and Regent Street, between the Plas Coch Roundabout and Hope Street, could be improved for pedestrians and cyclists, in line with Welsh Government policy which encourages active travel and prioritises walking and cycling over motor vehicles.&nbsp;We are looking at a range of different ways that the road could be redesigned to make it easier to walk and cycle between Wrexham City Centre and key destinations like Wrexham General Station, Glyndŵr University, Wrexham Maelor Hospital, The Racecourse Ground and other employment and residential areas. &nbsp;This includes consideration of relatively small-scale changes that would make things easier for pedestrians and cyclists (like dropped kerbs and continuous crossings across side roads) through to bolder ideas which would significantly change the way the road is used and how it looks and feels (like suggestions for one-way sections of street or shared spaces where pedestrians and cyclists have more priority). &nbsp;&nbsp;It is important that we look at all the pros and cons of different design options. Ultimately, in this location, demands for road space are complex and it is likely that any scheme for walking and cycling will imply some trade offs.We have put together two designs for the entirety of the corridor as a basis for discussion &ndash; these explore what could be done with a &nbsp;medium or high level of active travel intervention. These are intended to highlight possibilities and it might be that elements could be taken from each.Our work is at an early stage and no firm decisions have been made. &nbsp;We are keen to hear about which aspects you like and any you may have concerns about. &nbsp; We will use your feedback to develop our designs further and there will be other opportunities for you to comment at a later date.&nbsp;Please note that when we use the term &lsquo;pedestrian&rsquo; or &lsquo;walk&rsquo; we are referring not only to those who travel by foot, but also users of wheelchairs and other mobility aids.&nbsp;<h2>Study Area</h2>This project is looking at the Mold Road Corridor between the A483 (Junction 5) and Hope Street (start of Wrexham City Centre pedestrianised zone), including the A541 Mold Road, A5152 Regent Street, A5152 Bradley Road and A541 Central Road. We are looking at the road in three sections:<ol><li>A483 (trunk road) Junction 5 to Racecourse Stadium. On this section, which is relatively wide, we are looking at options for how we can reallocate road space to give greater priority to pedestrians and cyclists.</li><li>Racecourse Stadium to Wrexham General Station (includes Station Approach). Here, we are looking at how we can make better use of the constrained road space, particularly at the two railway bridges, which form a significant pinch point. &nbsp;On this section we are also looking to provide better links with the on-going Wrexham Gateway Site regeneration proposals.</li><li>Wrexham General Station to Hope Street (start of pedestrianised zone). In this section we are looking at options to make better use of the existing road space. &nbsp;We want to ensure we make best possible provision for pedestrians, cyclists and buses in this area. &nbsp;</li></ol><h2 id="isPasted">Development of Active Travel Options</h2>We have looked at lots of different design ideas that would help to make this route better for pedestrian and cyclists, from which we have put together two different designs to prompt discussion. &nbsp;These explore what Mold Road could be like with different levels of intervention &ndash; Medium and High.&nbsp;A low-intervention design was also considered (not presented as part this engagement exercise) but following assessment, it was felt that it did not go far enough in terms of prioritising or improving infrastructure for both pedestrians and cyclists.We are interested to hear which bits of each option you like and which bits you don&rsquo;t. We will use your feedback to help to refine our design ideas. This may mean taking bits of each of the designs and putting them together into a different design. &nbsp;Ultimately, we aim to come up with one preferred design and take this forward for more detailed consideration so that we can put together a case for funding. &nbsp; <h3>Option 1 &ndash; Medium Level Intervention Proposals:</h3>This option looks at the improvements that could be delivered if road space were reallocated to make space for segregated cycle tracks and wider footways. This option provides one-way cycle tracks on both sides of the roads and makes part of Regent Street one-way. &nbsp;It provides much improved facilities for pedestrians and cyclists but isn&rsquo;t able to tackle all the issues. &nbsp;For example, in this option, the bridges over the railway remain a pinch point and cyclists would still have to use the road at this point.

<h3 id="isPasted">Option 2 &ndash; High Level Intervention Proposals:</h3>This option explores the type of walking and cycling facilities that could be provided if a bolder approach were taken and the road layout were changed significantly. &nbsp;It includes a wide two-way cycle track all the way along the corridor and a new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists. &nbsp;At the western end of the corridor, the Plas Coch Roundabout would be completely redesigned to provide direct crossings. At the eastern end of the corridor, Regent Street would be closed to through traffic between King Street and Hill Street and this area would be redesigned as a shared surface street. Also, the Bradley Road /Central Road/Regent Street circulatory system would change from one-way to two-way operation. &nbsp;This option would create much better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists all the way along but it would involve much more significant changes to the way traffic moves through the city centre. &nbsp;It would require more investment than the other options and would likely take longer to implement.

Chester Road

Chester Road provides an important connection into Wrexham from the north. There are existing cycle lanes marked on parts of the road, but these are narrow, uneven and stop-start. However, the existing path on the east side of Chester Road alongside Derwent Crescent provides a good off-road link for both pedestrians and cyclists.We have looked at how to create a consistent route for pedestrians and cyclists along the length of Chester Road.We are looking at options to:<ul><li>Widen the exiting footway to create a shared use path between Glyndwr Road/Kenyon Avenue and Box Lane</li><li>Narrow the road to make space for the above</li><li>Improve the existing off-road path which runs alongside Derwent Drive.</li><li>Provide improved crossings along the route.</li></ul>South of Rhosnesni Lane there are a number of options we could look at. &nbsp; We&rsquo;d love to hear your views on where the route should go.We will use your feedback alongside the findings of our ongoing technical work to choose whether a scheme for Holt Road, Kingsmills Road or Chester Road should progress first and then take the selected route forward for detailed design. &nbsp;Other routes would then be considered further in the future.For drawings of our initial ideas please see below.

Holt Road and Borras Road

Holt Road provides an important connection into Wrexham from the north east and is a key route to the Rhosnesni area and out towards the Industrial Estate. There are existing cycle lanes marked on parts of the road, but these are narrow, uneven and stop-start. However, Holt Road is quite wide so there is an opportunity to rethink the layout to provide more space for pedestrian and cyclists. Borras Road is an important connection to the secondary school.We have looked at how to create a consistent route for pedestrians and cyclists along the length of Holt Road from the Greyhound Inn at the junction with Cefn Road and via Holt Street to the town centre and St George&rsquo;s Crescent to Tesco,&nbsp;as well as on Borras Road.We are looking at options to:<ul><li>Provide new cycle tracks along both sides of Holt Road, separated from both the footway and the traffic using kerbs.</li><li>Widen the exiting footway to create a shared use path on Holt Street, linking to the town centre&nbsp;</li><li>Widen the exiting footway to create a shared use path on Borras Road, linking to the secondary school</li><li>Narrow the road to make space for the above</li><li>Provide improved crossings along the route.</li></ul>We will use your feedback alongside the findings of our ongoing technical work to choose whether a scheme for Holt Road, Kingsmills Road or Chester Road should progress first and then take the selected route forward for detailed design. &nbsp;Other routes would then be considered further in the future.For drawings of our initial ideas please see below.

<h1 id="isPasted">About the project</h1><h2>Improving routes for walking and cycling in Wrexham</h2>This project is a collaboration between Transport for Wales and Wrexham Council and is looking at how to make it easier, safer and more convenient for pedestrians to walk and cycle on key routes into Wrexham town centre. At the same time we are looking at opportunities for wider enhancements including planting, greenery, signage and street furniture as part of the Transforming Towns initiative.&nbsp;Please note that when we use the word &lsquo;pedestrian&rsquo; or &lsquo;walker/walking&rsquo; we are referring not only to those who travel by foot, but also users of wheelchairs or other mobility aids.Over the next few years we aim to look at various routes, but for now our focus is on progressing one of the following routes:This consultation asks for your feedback on early stage designs for four routes in total.Kingsmills Road, Holt Road/Borras Road and Chester RoadFirstly, we are seeking comments on the following three routes. &nbsp;Based on the feedback we receive and taking account of other factors we envisage selecting one of these three routes to progress first and, subject to funding deliver, later in 2023/24. &nbsp;The other routes would then progress at a later date:&nbsp;<ul type="disc"><li>A525 Kingsmills Road (including links to the town centre) between its junctions with Kings Close and Bennion Road as well as onwards links towards the town centre via Bennion Road, Salisbury Road, Salop Road and St Giles Way.</li><li>A534 Holt Road and Borras Road between the Cefn Road junction (the Greyhound Inn) and the A5152 junction, as well as onwards links to the town centre via Holt Street and St Georges Crescent, we have also looked at Borras Road</li><li>A5152 Chester Road,&nbsp;with initial proposals looking at the section between its junctions with Glyndwr Road and Westminster Drive</li></ul>Mold RoadSecondly, we are looking for feedback on two different suggestions for the&nbsp;A541 Mold Road and Regent Street&nbsp;between the Plas Coch roundabout and the junction of Regent Street and Hope Street, including the A541 Mold Road, A5152 Regent Street, A5152 Bradley Road and A541 Central Road.We will use your comments to evolve the designs (which may include selecting bits from each). &nbsp;We will then look at how improvements on this corridor could be phased and which sections could be delivered first.<h2>About this consultation</h2>On this website we have set out our emerging ideas for the types of improvements that could be made on these streets. By providing better footpaths, cycle tracks and crossings and developing a network of route across Wrexham we aim to make things easier and safer for people who already walk and cycle and, importantly, encourage more people to leave the car at home for short local journeys. In the content of the climate and ecological emergency this is now more important than ever.The routes we are looking at are provide important connections between communities, schools, shops, workplaces and the town centre. We have looked at how each route could be potentially redesigned to create direct, safe, comfortable and attractive routes for pedestrians (including people in wheelchairs and mobility scooters) and cyclists. As with any project of this nature there are local constraints and there are likely to be some trade-offs and we aim to achieve a reasonable balance between the needs of all road users.
